Dr. Keith and Cindy Berend happily find themselves running in a million different directions these days. With their own professional and volunteer responsibilities, and daughters Taylor and Molly active in school and sports, the couple relishes the quiet time they spend together. As a family, they also recognize how lucky they are, and want to give back to the community that means so much to them.

A native of Columbus, and an orthopedic surgeon with Joint Implant Surgeons, Inc., Keith remembers when he was younger hearing about The Columbus Foundation and the things it did to help the community. He and Cindy both learned from a very young age the importance of giving back, so when it came time to look at how best to handle their own family’s charitable giving, they saw the Foundation as the perfect fit. “The philosophy was instilled within both of us from a young age to give back,” said Cindy. “We want to pass along those same values to our daughters. It’s important that we open their eyes and set a good example for them.”

In 2010, the Berends established two funds with The Columbus Foundation. The Keith and Cindy Berend Family Endowment Fund of the New Albany Community Foundation will help them support the New Albany-Plain Local School District, and the Keith and Cindy Berend Family Fund will fund causes and initiatives focused on health, wellness, and education.
