Major General Raymond E. and
Margaret Mason
Major General Raymond E. Mason, Jr., AUS (ret) established the Raymond E. Mason Foundation with an initial charitable contribution in 1987. Thirty more charitable contributions followed over the next 20 years, including appreciated stock, real estate, interests in limited partnerships and limited liability companies, and artwork. General Mason made most of the charitable contributions, but his wife, Margaret, and oldest son, Ray, served along with him as the Foundation’s family trustees and made their own important contributions in this role. The Mason family members each have distinct interests, but all come together around the ideals of the free enterprise system, service to ones country, and creating educational and other programs that allow for people to reach the goal of self-sufficiency. As of 2007, the Mason Foundation has given just over $21 million to nonprofit organizations. Because these gifts occurred during their lifetime, the Masons have had the opportunity to see the impact firsthand.
