The Way We Were – Children’s Matinee
- April 14, 2012 | 10:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
The King Arts Complex proudly presents The Way We Were, an entertaining history lesson about the near east side of Columbus.
This story chronicles the life and times of William Arthur Method, M.D. (1881-1936). He was an African-American who lived and practiced medicine in Columbus from 1906 to 1936. During the month of May 1920, he and R.W. Tribbitt, D.D.S. built the Alpha Hospital and office building on the southwest corner of East Long and 17th Street, now the site of Urban Spirit Cafe. He was the first African-American admitted to the surgical staff of the St. Clair Hospital and he also helped form the Spring Street YMCA, now the Eldon & Elsie Ward Family YMCA on Woodland Avenue. Dr. Method was considered the “Dean of Negro Physicians.” This is presented in cooperation with Friends of Art for Community Enrichment (F.A.C.E.).
