Disaster Relief

An 9.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Japan on March 11, the strongest ever recorded in the country and one of the largest anywhere during the last century. The quake created a devastating tsunami that swept over cities and farmland along the northern part of the country, causing widespread damage. In the days since the quake, death estimates soared astronomically, with officials saying that more than 10,000 had died in one seaside town alone.

Knowing that Japan is a highly developed and proud country that is still determining how it is going to manage external aid, you may still wish to support those organizations responding to the crisis.

For individuals, families, and companies interested in supporting this effort, you can make a tax-deductible contribution through theĀ Japan 2011 Disaster Relief Fund of The Columbus Foundation. The new fund will distribute 100% of all donations to relief organizations, including:

  • American Red Cross
  • Doctors Without Borders (unrestricted fund)
  • Give2Asia
  • The Salvation Army USA
  • Save the Children

Here’s how you can help:
