Dorothy E. Ann Fund (D.E.A.F.)
This fund promotes hands-on experiences where youth who are deaf or hard of hearing can develop skills and values necessary for successful careers, including leadership training, goal setting, self-esteem building, and interpersonal and communication skills, thereby enhancing participation in their education, family, and community.
Traditional Grants
Focus: Support to organizations serving children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Deadline: Letter of Intent (LOI) is due December 15. LOIs should be no more than two typed pages. Full Proposal is due the third Friday in February and should be no more than five typed pages. A budget page may be attached, which will not count towards the five-page limit.
Process: The D.E.A.F. Advisors will review LOIs in January. Organizations will be contacted in late January regarding the D.E.A.F. Advisors’ interest in considering a Full Proposal. Grant awards will be announced in May. Organizations receiving a grant are expected to attend a November meeting to present a progress report on the funded project or program. Handouts and PowerPoint presentations are appreciated but not required.
Teacher Mini-Grants
Focus: Mini-grants (maximum of $500) to teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Deadline: March 15, May 15, October 15, December 15
Process: Grant decisions are generally made within six to eight weeks of the deadline.

Technology that Supports Literacy Mini-Grants
Focus: A school administrator applies for a grant on behalf of teachers of children who are deaf or hard of hearing. Each teacher is eligible to apply for up to $1,000 per year to purchase technology.
Deadline: December 15
Process: Grant decisions are generally made within six to eight weeks of the deadline.

Requirements
Applications should be submitted by e-mail to deaf@columbusfoundation.org. Grantees must submit a final report due by June 1 following the end of the project also to deaf@columbusfoundation.org.
