JOHN W. AND EDNA MCMANUS SHEPARD FUND/CAMBRIDGE FOUNDATION ANNOUNCE GRANTS


Columbus, OH (July 29, 2008)—The John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Fund and Cambridge Foundation has awarded eight grants totaling $19,325 to organizations serving Cambridge and Guernsey counties.

Beckett United Methodist Church$750 from the Shepard Fund to for the S.A.L.T. Factory to provide recreation programs for teens.

 

Byesville Scenic Railway, Inc.—$750 from the Shepard Fund to support the creation of marketing materials to increase tourism.

 

Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation$2,500 from the Shepard Fund to promote economic development through marketing in trade publications and reprinting an informational brochure.

 

Cambridge Area YMCA Family Center—$2,000 from the Shepard Fund to support the community youth center.

 

Cambridge Concert Association, Inc.—$1,000 from the Shepard Fund to support the annual concert series.

 

Cambridge Rotary Foundation, Inc. —$1,000 from the Shepard Fund to support the installation of a handicap accessible playground at the Cambridge City Park.

 

G.R.A.C.E. Pantry—$2,135 from the Shepard Fund and $2,865 from the Cambridge Foundation to support the food pantry, which provides meals for low-income persons.

 

Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, Inc.—$2,500 from the Shepard Fund to support provide transportation for senior citizens.

 

Haven Of Hope—$2,825 from the Cambridge Foundation to provide matching funds to support domestic violence and victim assistance programs.

 

Living Word Outdoor Drama, Inc.—$1,000 from the Shepard Fund for capital improvements and facility upgrades. 

 

The Shepard Fund was established in 1998 by Arthur E. Shepard in memory of his parents, longtime residents of Cambridge. The fund benefits residents of Cambridge and Guernsey Counties.  Mr. Shepard’s father, John W. Shepard, owned and operated a dry cleaning and tailoring business for 36 years before his death in 1944. His mother, the former Edna McManus, moved to Cambridge with her family when the Cambridge Glass Company opened. Her father made the first piece of glassware produced at the company.
