Columbus Dispatch: “Couple pledges $1.5 million to Columbus schools for band instruments”

“When Nanci Gobey was a seventh-grader growing up on the South Side, she got a trombone from a relative so she could play in the school band. She later went to Pickerington High, where the school let her borrow a cello to play.

“It made going to school fun,” Gobey said. “It was that hook that kept me interested in going to school.”

As a student jazz band looked on after performing before the start of Tuesday night’s Columbus Board of Education meeting, Gobey and her husband, David Gobey, pledged $1.5 million to Columbus City Schools to purchase musical instruments for students.”
