Allen Eiry Fund Awards Special Grant To Help Seniors In Tiffin And Seneca County

New grant supports transportation needs of seniors

Columbus, OH (June 2, 2011)—The Advisory Committee of the Allen Eiry Fund of The Columbus Foundation has authorized a special $26,300 grant to purchase a 12-passenger mini-bus for the Seneca County Home Auxiliary. The fund’s advisory committee approved the emergency grant on May 17.

“The Seneca County Home Auxiliary has long been supported by the Allen Eiry Fund,” said Karl C. Kerschner, committee chairman. “In keeping with that longstanding tradition, the committee authorized this grant outside of our normal grantmaking cycle to respond to an immediate transportation need of the many seniors assisted by the Seneca County Home Auxiliary.”

The grant from the Allen Eiry Fund will be used to purchase a 12-passenger mini-bus with wheel chair positions. The bus will be used to transport nursing home residents, seniors in assisted living facilities, and the home-bound to various locations in Tiffin and Seneca County. The Seneca County Home Auxiliary is a nonprofit organization that has been helping the needy in Seneca County for the past 41 years.

All grants made from the Allen Eiry Fund honor the wishes of Mr. Eiry—an endowment fund was created in his name through The Columbus Foundation in 1983 to benefit the elderly citizens of Seneca County.

A native of Seneca County, Mr. Eiry operated an automobile dealership in Green Springs, Ohio, for nearly 40 years. He also farmed several parcels of land and invested in real estate. He was a member of the Seneca County Farm Bureau and the Green Springs Masonic Lodge.

A five-member advisory committee of Seneca County citizens assists The Columbus Foundation in disbursing income from this fund. In addition to Mr. Kerschner, the members of the committee are: Margo T. Drake, Dominic Fabrizio, Denny Studrawa, and Jimmie Young.
