The Carol Strip Whitney Scholarship represents a life of passion, as she has taught gifted children for 45 years. Dr. Carol believes in the abilities of gifted children to make this world a better place. These children will be our leaders, our researchers, our inventors. It is her belief that an investment in their futures can only serve to awaken the important aspects of learning for the world of tomorrow. She had many incredible experiences with gifted children and their families throughout many years in the public schools, and after years in the classroom, she retired from public schools to start her own practice in serving the needs of the gifted child and their families. Dr. Carol operates Gifted Services of Ohio, which serves gifted children, grades K-12. She has also written three books on the subject of gifted education and received her Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in curriculum of the gifted adolescent. Her books include, Helping Gifted Children Soar, 2000 with a revision in 2012; A Love for Learning: Motivation and the Gifted Child, 2010, and she is writing Turning Stress into Success: A Handbook for the Gifted. It is Dr. Carol’s belief that too often the gifted child is not understood and that parenting a gifted child is like riding the world’s highest, longest, and most complicated roller coaster ever built. It takes support and understanding to help these children develop to their highest potentials. Applicants to the scholarship intend to be among the leaders of the next generation.
