Robert E. and Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund for Chillicothe Announces Grant Deadline for 2016

COLUMBUS, Ohio (September 23, 2016)—The deadline for Chillicothe and Ross County organizations to submit grant applications to the Robert E. and Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund of Community Foundations, Inc. is Friday, October 28, 2016. Grant applications must be submitted by email to submit@columbusfoundation.org.

The Schaefer Fund awards grants to support nonprofit organizations in the areas of cultural development, health and human welfare, and economic development. Grants will not be awarded to individuals, churches, governmental agencies, or school districts. A four-member advisory committee, comprised of family members and community representatives, assists with grant recommendations. Organizations are discouraged from seeking general operating support or multi-year funding except for special circumstances.

Grant applications for the Robert E. and Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund may be accessed through The Columbus Foundation’s Nonprofit Center.

Robert E. Schaefer, a longtime Chillicothe resident, established this fund to support Chillicothe and Ross County. A veteran newspaperman, Mr. Schaefer served the community for more than 60 years, before his death in 1997. He joined the Chillicothe Gazette in 1938 and began a career that spanned 36 years.

A great believer in education, Mr. Schaefer established scholarships at Ohio University–Chillicothe and The Ohio State University to provide opportunities for the next generation of young people from Ross County. He also devoted much of his time and efforts to promote industrial development in Chillicothe, striving to move the community forward and position it for the future.
