Columbus’ True Originals celebrates those in our city who expand the horizons of Columbus through groundbreaking, original work. The Columbus Foundation recognizes Columbus’ True Originals to inspire, to show appreciation for creativity, vision, and talent, and to help love for our community grow. We believe the more we are proud of our city, the more engaged we will be in its well-being and the more likely we will be to invest in its future.

Our 2025 Columbus’ True Originals honorees represent giants in their respective areas that bring honor to our community:

Ann Hamilton

MacArthur Genius Ann Hamilton has one of the most distinguished passports of any artist, with extraordinarily creative and evocative installations of her work displayed locally and across the globe.

Rahsaan Roland Kirk

The great musical genius Rahsaan Roland Kirk was so original in his music and his playing his could literally be the photo used in a dictionary’s definition of “original.”

Jeff Wilkins

The visionary entrepreneur Jeff Wilkins saw the possibilities in online connectivity when the company he co-founded and led, CompuServe, became the first provider of commercial internet service.

Bill Willis

Hall of Famer Bill Willis broke through the color barrier in the NFL and had the talent and strength of character to make sure that access and respect didn’t stop with him.

These individuals distinguish and inspire us, and we honor them in their achievement, vision, and humanity.
