Columbus Youth Foundation Steps Up to the Plate for Central Ohio Kids

More than $80,000 in grants awarded to six nonprofit organizations at Triple-A All-Star Homerun Derby

Columbus, OH (July 10, 2018)—While the Triple-A Homerun Derby was an impressive exhibit of athletic skill and strength, it was also an inspiring display of goodwill and generosity.

On Monday evening, six youth-focused nonprofit organizations received grant awards from the Columbus Youth Foundation (CYF) during an on-field ceremony at Huntington Park.  The recipient organizations range in their individual missions, but all promote health and wellness in central Ohio youth through recreation and sports.
“Promoting healthy living and life skills has been the focus of the Columbus Youth Foundation since its formation in 1955,” said Cathy Lyttle, Chair of CYF. “The foundation’s longstanding relationship to Huntington Park and the Clippers made this event the perfect occasion to award these funds to these remarkable organizations who share our vision for improving lives through recreation and sports.”

Established as the first Supporting Foundation of The Columbus Foundation in 1976, CYF has awarded more than $4 million in grants to help young people attend summer camp, participate in recreational activities, and enjoy cultural enrichment activities.

This year’s grantees and awards included:

Recreation Unlimited Foundation

$4,100 for Summer Camp Scholarships

Girls on the Run of Central Ohio

$10,000 for Afterschool Program

Boys and Girls Club of Columbus, Inc.

$40,000 for Summer Brain Gain Program
