Robert E. And Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund Announces Grants — December 2014

COLUMBUS, OH (December 23, 2014)—The Robert E. and Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund has awarded 19 grants totaling more than $129,000 to organizations serving the City of Chillicothe and Ross County.

American Red Cross—$2,000 to support repairs to the American Red Cross, Scioto Valley Chapter’s facilities.

Archaeological Conservancy—$10,000 to support the development of the Junction Group Complex into an archaeological park and nature preserve.

Carver Community Center—$5,000 to support K-12 youth through educational and life-skills programming.

Child Protection Center of Ross County—$5,692 to purchase books, storage, and monitoring equipment for the family and caregiver resource center.

Church of Deliverance, Inc.—$1,500 to support REACH Ministry’s community programs and events.

Easter Seals Central and Southeast Ohio, Inc.—$2,500 to purchase a greenhouse and bookshelves for the adult day program.

First Presbyterian Church dba Children’s Clothing Bank—$1,000 to purchase clothing for children in need.

National Church Residences—$8,240 to purchase technology for the non-emergency medical transportation program.

The Pump House Center for the Arts—$15,000 to support building costs associated with expanding the Pump House Café and Educational Center.

Ross County Christian Academy—$10,000 to support costs associated with adding a high school.

Ross County Coalition Against Domestic Violence—$5,000 to support the Moving Ahead Through Financial Management program.

Ross County Community Action Commission—$8,500 to support the emergency men’s shelter.

Scioto Society, Inc.—$28,465 to support a sustainable operating plan and marketing staff.

Seeds of Hope—$5,000 to support training and development for volunteer caseworkers.

Simon Kenton Council, Boy Scouts of America—$5,000 to support ScoutReach afterschool programming for 140 at-risk youth in Chillicothe.

South Central Ohio Big Brother Big Sister Association—$2,432 to support match activities for mentors, mentees, and youth waiting to be matched with mentors.

Stargazey’s Equine Therapy—$3,000 to support equine therapy activities at the Pioneer Center and Black Equestrian Farm to participants of all ages and abilities.

United Way of Ross County—$6,420 to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Ross County.

Young Life Ross County—$5,000 to support outreach activities to high schools in Ross County.

 


 

About the Robert E. and Genevieve B. Schaefer Fund

Robert E. Schaefer, a longtime Chillicothe resident, established this fund to provide for the cultural development, health and human welfare, and economic development of Chillicothe and Ross County. A veteran newspaperman, Mr. Schaefer, who died in 1997, served the community for more than 60 years. He joined the Chillicothe Gazette in 1938 and began a career that spanned 36 years. It was Mr. Schaefer’s hope that these annual contributions to the community would inspire others with charitable intent to impact the community.

A great believer in education, Mr. Schaefer established scholarships at Ohio University–Chillicothe and The Ohio State University to provide opportunities for the next generation of young people from Ross County. He also devoted much of his time and efforts to promote industrial development in Chillicothe, striving to move the community forward and position it for the future.

An advisory committee, made up of family members and community representatives, assists with grant recommendations.
