The Siemer Institute, a supporting foundation of The Columbus Foundation, welcomes Kimberly Dorniden to the organization as President and National Director.

The Foundation announced today that more than $1.5 million has been raised for The Big Give Bonus Pool, besting the previous high of $1.4 million for the last event in 2017. Despite challenging economic circumstances, nonprofits tackling our community’s toughest issues will get a record-setting boost during this year’s Big Give.

During the annual Celebration of Philanthropy event, The Columbus Foundation announced unprecedented investments in four key, strategic areas over the next 18 months. Also during the event, the Foundation awarded its annual Philanthropist of the Year award, the Harrison M. Sayre Award, to Catherine Willis, and Nonprofit of the Year honors, the Columbus Foundation Award, to the Human Service Chamber of Franklin County.

The Columbus Foundation today announced Joanna M. Pinkerton and the team at Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) as recipients of the 2022 Spirit of Columbus Award.

To support the ongoing revitalization efforts in the Weinland Park neighborhood, southeast of The Ohio State University, The Columbus Foundation’s Governing Committee has approved a total of $888,640 in grants to date in 2014 from the Foundation’s Fund for Community Improvement.

The Columbus Foundation’s Governing Committee approved a grant of $375,809 to support USN’s efforts at Columbus Collegiate Academy – Main Street and Columbus Collegiate Academy – Dana Ave.

On any given night, dozens of families in central Ohio are homeless. This situation is particularly hard on the children, who are victims of their parents’ misfortune or bad choices — or perversely, this community’s prosperity. Central Ohio’s strong job market and population boom has translated into an improving quality of life for most residents. But struggling families are being left out of this progress. Many have lost benefits as the supply of affordable housing has tightened. The result? A rise in family homelessness that has prompted a new community task force to identify ways to catch families before they fall into homelessness and to more effectively use resources.

Recent months have seen several major developments for The Paul G. Duke Foundation, including the election of a new president of the board of trustees and announcement of several new grants to benefit nonprofit organizations in the Miami County area. The trustees look forward to announcing further changes during the coming year.
