What is Capacity Building?

Director of Capacity Building & Community Knowledge Danielle Tong shares how support for the comprehensive well-being of nonprofits through capacity building helps them go further faster—and why investing in things you can't always see is critical to ensuring the ongoing health of our community's social sector.

New Renovations Put The Spotlight On Animals

Columbus Humane is passionate about its mission to “fight animal cruelty, help animals in need, and advocate for their well-being.” In addition to serving as a shelter and providing veterinary care at its state-of-the-art onsite hospital, the organization, founded in 1883, handles thousands of animal cruelty investigations each year. Recent renovations to Columbus Humane’s site in Hilliard puts animals in the spotlight.

Outfitting Students to Thrive

The back-to-school season is in full swing—but for many central Ohio nonprofits, the important work of supporting students both inside and outside the classroom is year-round. This month, we spotlight one central Ohio nonprofit’s efforts to boost educational outcomes by providing clothing assistance to families in need.

Community Research

The Columbus Foundation has long invested in community research to help enhance community knowledge across a range of important issues, such as mental healthcare, digital equity and inclusion, youth services, aging populations, and homelessness. This research serves to educate the community, inform regional priorities, identify local assets and pain points, and help local nonprofits determine where to focus their programming.

In recognition of the organization’s contributions to strengthening and improving the community, The Columbus Foundation also named Catholic Social Services one of the 5 Nonprofits to Watch in 2017.
