The Columbus Foundation’s Governing Committee approved a grant of $375,809 to support USN’s efforts at Columbus Collegiate Academy – Main Street and Columbus Collegiate Academy – Dana Ave.

On any given night, dozens of families in central Ohio are homeless. This situation is particularly hard on the children, who are victims of their parents’ misfortune or bad choices — or perversely, this community’s prosperity. Central Ohio’s strong job market and population boom has translated into an improving quality of life for most residents. But struggling families are being left out of this progress. Many have lost benefits as the supply of affordable housing has tightened. The result? A rise in family homelessness that has prompted a new community task force to identify ways to catch families before they fall into homelessness and to more effectively use resources.

Recent months have seen several major developments for The Paul G. Duke Foundation, including the election of a new president of the board of trustees and announcement of several new grants to benefit nonprofit organizations in the Miami County area. The trustees look forward to announcing further changes during the coming year.

The Allen Eiry Fund recently announced its grant funding for 2016—awarding 12 grants totaling $170,725 to organizations serving elderly residents in Seneca County.

Carter Hatch has been named Planned Giving Officer for Donor Services and Development at The Columbus Foundation, effective May 31, 2016. As a Planned Giving Officer, Hatch will work with the Foundation’s current and prospective donors and professional advisors to match their charitable interests with effective giving strategies.

The Columbus Foundation is pleased to announce participants in its 2017 Summer Fellowship Program.

What are you talking about this week? On Wednesday, more than 5,000 Columbus-area residents are expected to participate in at least 500 conversations to be held across the region as part of the Columbus Foundation’s “Big Table.”

Richard Heer Oman, an attorney who helped guide the Columbus Foundation through years of expansive growth, began his work with the Foundation as a director in 1955 and served through 1978. He remained as its legal counsel until 2005.

The Columbus Youth Foundation (CYF), a Supporting Foundation of The Columbus Foundation, recognized 88 Columbus City Schools (CCS) students through the Best All-Around Student Awards, presented Tuesday evening at Huntington Park before the Columbus Clippers game. The award celebrates students’ academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, service to community, and leadership during the 2022-2023 school year.

Ervin Marriot was a dedicated teacher who instilled in his students a desire to think for themselves, allowing them to discuss current topics and how they would be personally affected. He taught in the Grandview Heights School System from 1973 until his death in a car accident in 1988. Ervin loved to travel, having visited more than 50 countries during his lifetime, and he shared the insights he had gained through these travels with his students. He will be remembered as a teacher, friend, and coach.
