The Columbus Foundation, the trusted philanthropic advisor® to more than 2,000 donors, recently launched an initiative to inspire generosity and collaboration. In keeping with The Spirit of Columbus, the Foundation is amplifying the positivity of community events by donating meals to food pantries in honor of each attendee.

Nonprofit organizations supporting education, social services, community events, and youth received an economic boost from The Paul G. Duke Foundation.

In less than 24 hours, The Columbus Foundation’s Big Give will kick off, offering donors and the community an opportunity to show their collective spirit and support local nonprofits working to strengthen and improve our community.

Music can open up new horizons for students, aiding them in their other studies and giving them an outlet for expression. It also can foster a lifelong and life-enriching interest. Recognizing the enduring importance of music, David and Nanci Gobey have pledged a generous gift of $1.5 million to buy instruments and pay for other music-related expenses in Columbus City Schools. Their gift, made through a trust set up with the Columbus Foundation, even will allow Columbus high-school graduates who meet academic requirements to potentially keep the instrument they’ve been using during their school years.

COLUMBUS, OH (March 29, 2017)—Kelley Griesmer, J.D., CAP®, has been promoted to Senior Vice President of The Columbus Foundation.

The Columbus Foundation is seeking college and graduate students and recent college graduates who have an interest in the nonprofit sector to apply for its 2023 Summer Fellowship Program.

The fund was created by the efforts of the Wehrle High School Community Education Association to support students attending Wehrle High School in Columbus’ south side. After the school closed, the Association redirected the funding to support students who would have attended Wehrle High School in pursuing a high school education in the Catholic tradition.

This scholarship was established by Terrence Larrimer to honor his grandfather, Thomas Larrimer (1879-1915), and his father, Richard Larrimer (1903-1987). Both men grew up and were educated in Washington Court House. When Thomas Larrimer died in a work related accident, Richard assumed responsibility for his own education and that of his two younger brothers. Richard Larrimer graduated from The Ohio State University Law School in 1925 and founded Larrimer & Larrimer, a Columbus law firm specializing in Worker's Compensation. Through this scholarship Terrence wishes to recognize his father's commitment to education and by focusing the scholarship on science and engineering, to emphasize the importance of these disciplines in our nation's future.

This fund is designated for Lancaster City Schools (Ohio) to make awards to an outstanding female freshman athlete scholar to participate in summer educational activities.

Burton Egbert Stevenson was born in Chillicothe, Ohio in 1872. He attended Princeton University from 1890-1893; during this time, he was a correspondent for United Press and the New York Tribune. He married Elizabeth Shepard Butler in 1895, their marriage lasting 65 years, and returned to Chillicothe, where he was the librarian for more than 60 years. During World War I, Mr. Stevenson was instrumental in efforts to connect soldiers to periodicals from their hometowns, and in establishing a library at Camp Sherman. He was also with the American Library in Paris, where he was the director from 1918-1920, and from 1925-1930. As an author and anthologist, Mr. Stevenson is credited with four young adult novels and 12 anthologies, along with more than 20 other books. As part of his legacy, Burton E. Stevenson created this endowment to “be devoted solely and entirely to the service of the under-privileged children of Ross County, Ohio…without discrimination as to race, sex, or religion, with the purpose of removing, or at least lessening, such handicaps as they may have started in life with, and to fit them, as far as it is possible to do so, to lead successful and happy lives.”
