Jerrie Mock, the Columbus woman who in 1964 became the first women to successfully fly solo around the world, was inducted today into the Paul E. Garber First Flight Shrine in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The induction was part of the First Flight Society’s 112th Wright Brothers Anniversary of Powered Flight. Columbus Foundation President and CEO Douglas F. Kridler was the keynote speaker for the event.

The Columbus Foundation celebrated the outstanding work of our business and nonprofit leaders and innovators who were named the best in the United States for their accomplishments over the past year. The individuals and organizations were honored at the annual National Number Ones event held at the Foundation on February 19.

Twice as many people are seeking psychiatric care each month in Franklin County emergency departments compared to six years ago, swamping the system, and community leaders today introduced a framework for addressing the crisis.

Five central Ohio nonprofit organizations targeting critical community issues–homelessness, poverty, the heroin epidemic, illiteracy, early childhood education, and the spread of HIV and the health and wellness of the LGBTQ community–have been named “5 Nonprofits to Watch” in 2016 by The Columbus Foundation, one of the nation’s largest community foundations.

The Columbus Youth Foundation (CYF) will recognize 94 Columbus City Schools (CCS) students through the Best All-Around Student Awards, tonight at Huntington Park, before the game between the Columbus Clippers and the Buffalo Bisons. The event recognizes students for their outstanding citizenship and achievements during the 2015-2016 school year. The Whetstone High School Marching Band will perform before the ceremony and will play the national anthem.

COLUMBUS, OH (September 26, 2016)—Columbus is ready to welcome more than 400 leaders from 75 cities across the country when the 2016 National Meeting for CEOs for Cities convenes here on September 27. The prestigious, three-day event will bring together an innovative group of mayors, and civic, corporate, and nonprofit leaders who will share the smartest ideas and practices for city success.

The Columbus Foundation today announced $1.2 million in grants awarded to central Ohio arts and culture organizations for 2023. A total of 74 nonprofit organizations will receive critical unrestricted operating support to help them achieve their missions.

This scholarship fund was established by the family of John E. Craig, Jr. and Larry William Craig. Both John and Larry were extremely gifted musicians. John was a noted musician in the central Ohio community, studying at the Berklee College of Music in Boston at the time of his death. A well-known musician and businessman, Larry excelled at playing the piano and worked with his father in Craig & Sons Wrecking Company. This scholarship fund will provide support to students who are pursuing careers in musical arts, theatre or drama.

To provide scholarship awards to graduating seniors of the Columbus City Schools who will be majoring in any area of study with the exception of visual arts, have a stong interest in public service, and are participating in The John Glenn Institute Living Learning Program at The Ohio State University.
