A Longstanding Commitment to Community
For 160 years, Huntington National Bank has been a pillar of the central Ohio community, building a legacy of leadership, innovation, and service. Founded as P.W. Huntington & Company in 1866, the company began operations at the corner of Broad Street and High Street in downtown Columbus. Today, Huntington continues to call Columbus home, making it one of central Ohio’s most enduring institutions.
Huntington’s reputation as a trusted community partner is as established as the bank itself. For generations, Huntington has invested in initiatives that strengthen communities, expand opportunities, and improve the quality of life in central Ohio and beyond.
“Banks have an important role and an obligation. We’re the center of commerce, so we can do a lot to help people lead better lives, help businesses, and certainly help the communities we live in,” said Steve Steinour, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Huntington Bancshares Incorporated. “The ethos of being good to the community and giving back—that’s in the DNA of the company and has been for more than a century and a half.”

Huntington has long believed that investing in local nonprofits—whether through charitable giving or volunteerism—helps build a healthy and vibrant community. Through its philanthropic efforts, Huntington focuses on four key areas: community revitalization and stabilization, community services, affordable housing, and economic and community development.

Through its generosity, Huntington is also a leading supporter of many community programs, including Pelotonia. Since 2009, Huntington has raised more than $54 million to support Pelotonia’s mission to fund life-saving cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.

“My colleagues do a lot to help their communities, wherever they’re located. It inspires me to be able to work with them,” said Steinour. “We’ve got great leaders, we’ve got tremendous levels of philanthropy, and we’ve got a lot of people who care and look out for each other and their neighbors.”
Huntington has been a partner of The Columbus Foundation since the Foundation’s inception in 1943, serving as a founding trustee bank. Built on a shared commitment to community impact and thoughtful stewardship, this partnership has grown and flourished for more than 80 years. In 2016, Huntington established The Huntington Bank Community Fund, a Donor Advised Fund at The Columbus Foundation, to support the company’s philanthropic efforts. In the last 10 years, Huntington has contributed more than $163 million to the fund.
“For generations, Huntington National Bank has left a lasting mark on our region—investing time, resources, and leadership in organizations and programs that strengthen our community,” said Doug Kridler, President and CEO of The Columbus Foundation. “Huntington’s legacy is reflected not just in its banking, but in the opportunities it has created for generations of central Ohioans through its purpose-driven philanthropy.”
In recognition of its longstanding service to the community and exceptional leadership, Huntington National Bank has been selected as the 2026 honoree of The Harrison M. Sayre Award.
