Columbus, OH (March 27, 2017)—The John W. and Edna McManus Shepard Fund/Guernsey County Foundation is currently accepting applications for its 2018 program. The application deadline is Friday, May 25, 2018.
The Shepard Fund awards grants to benefit cultural and economic programs for Cambridge and Guernsey County. An advisory committee of two officers from the Guernsey County Foundation and committee chair John A. Davis assist with grant recommendations.
Grant applications and information may be accessed through The Columbus Foundation’s website, www.columbusfoundation.org, and can be submitted electronically by email to submit@columbusfoundation.org. Grant requests may not exceed $5,000. Last year’s recipients included the Cambridge Area YMCA; the Cambridge-Guernsey County Community Improvement Corporation; Dickens Victorian Village of Cambridge Inc.; the Guernsey County Historical Society; the Guernsey County Senior Citizens Center, Inc.; Lutheran Social Services of Southern Ohio; and the Ohio Arts and Crafts Foundation.
In 1998, Arthur E. Shepard established the Shepard Fund in memory of his parents, longtime residents of Cambridge. Mr. Shepard’s father, John W. Shepard, owned and operated a dry cleaning and tailoring business for 36 years before his death in 1944. His mother, the former Edna McManus, moved to Cambridge with her family when the Cambridge Glass Company opened. Her father made the first piece of glassware produced at the company.
