The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company Announces Local Grants To Increase Greenscapes In Central Ohio

Applications now open for community garden and green space projects in Franklin County

COLUMBUS, Ohio (August 18, 2014)—The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company and The Columbus Foundation have announced grant opportunities available through the ScottsMiracle-Gro Community Garden Academy Grant Fund for neighborhoods developing and maintaining community gardens and green spaces in Franklin County. Grants of up to $4,000 are available for qualified projects, including community gardens and nontraditional gardens, such as farmers’ markets, school gardens, and beautification efforts.

This fund was established in 2002 through The Columbus Foundation to support a variety of community garden projects in central Ohio. Now in its twelfth year, the fund aims to create an oasis of gardens and green spaces in the Columbus area that will serve as communal gathering places for neighborhoods.

“Columbus and its residents value and appreciate having more greenscapes and gardens throughout the city,” said Su Lok, Director, Corporate and Community Partnerships, ScottsMiracle-Gro. “It’s been an honor for us to partner with so many local organizations that are working to improve their neighborhoods through gardens and green spaces.”

Funding is available for projects taking place during the 2015 growing season in new or existing gardens and green spaces. Grant awards may include in-kind support in the form of ScottsMiracle-Gro product donations. Successful garden projects should involve neighborhood residents, demonstrate positive measurable outcomes, and meet stated objectives. Applicants are required to be a 501(c)(3) organization or have a fiscal sponsor to receive funds.

Visit the Scotts Miracle-Gro grant page for program details, eligibility requirements, and to apply. The deadline for applications is September 26, 2014.
