The Columbus Foundation, the nation’s seventh largest community foundation, announced an historic all-time high in grants awarded for 2013―$160.6 million―at its annual Celebration of Philanthropy, 70 Years Strong. The Foundation also announced the new Gifts of Kindness™ Fund, named the 2014 philanthropic award winners, and reported on the results of several strategic initiatives.

The Columbus Foundation was formed more than 70 years ago by an group of civic leaders, led by Harrison M. Sayre. To celebrate this anniversary, we’re happy to share A Spirited Journey, A Portrait of The Columbus Foundation’s First 70 Years, a new history book, available at columbusfoundation.org.

The J. Floyd Dixon Memorial Fund of Community Foundations, Inc. has awarded 11 grants totaling $49,689 to organizations serving Jackson County.

The Columbus cluster of CEOs for Cities announced Columbus as the host site of the 2016 CEOs for Cities National Meeting, which will be held in September. CEOs for Cities members from all over the country are expected to attend the prestigious event. The Columbus cluster consists of 40 local leaders from the public and private sector.

Grants to support the Ohio Association of Foodbanks and 18 other nonprofit organizations were approved by The Columbus Foundation’s Governing Committee at its December meeting, providing valuable dollars to assist with operations and program-related expenses.

Seven local nonprofits recently received grants aimed at efforts to beautify our community through the Joseph A. Jeffrey Endowment Fund. These grants, totaling $94,000, were made possible thanks to the generous legacy of Columbus entrepreneur Joseph A. Jeffrey.

The Columbus Foundation’s Governing Committee announced grants totaling $1,265,119 to support central Ohio arts and cultural organizations. The grants, approved on May 20, will provide funding for 50 organizations. These nonprofits, both large and small, offer a wealth of arts and cultural opportunities throughout the community.

The Arts Innovation Fund of The Columbus Foundation has awarded a Columbus Performing Arts Prize to support the next amazing collaboration between Columbus’ flagship performing arts organizations. BalletMet, the Columbus Symphony, and Opera Columbus will reunite for Twisted 2, the highly anticipated sequel to 2014’s smash hit, Twisted.

As the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board of Franklin County took new steps this week to fight the still-raging opiate crisis, the Columbus Foundation added support by announcing a first-of-its kind community fundraising effort to aid in the battle.
