The scholarship was founded by the family and friends of Lani Renay Anders. Lani’s family and friends desire for her goals and dreams to live on through others. The scholarship supports students who demonstrate Lani’s qualities and characteristics. Lani, was described by her teachers as an enthusiastic student who was sensitive and helpful to those around her. She was one-of-a-kind, strong willed and warm hearted; outgoing and trustworthy; likeable and friendly; cheerful and funny; always smiling and finding the fun in life. Lanie was killed in an automobile accident on August 6, 2002, three weeks before beginning her junior year at West Liberty-Salem High School. Lani also had a special gift for connecting with students. Although learning didn’t always come easily to Lani and she wasn’t a 4.0 student, she worked hard at her studies; enjoyed computers and art; appreciated her teachers; spent many hours in her mom’s classroom as well as Mr. Johnson’s classroom, and loved being a WL-S Tiger!
