Build a Playground
Columbus Early Learning Centers (CELC)
Support for Columbus Early Learning Centers (CELC) will help build a playground for its new Driving Park facility.
Columbus Early Learning Centers (CELC), one of the oldest nonprofit organizations in the state, has been serving families since 1887. It provides subsidized and affordable childcare to help children born into poverty overcome harmful disparities. Annually, CELC serves more than 300 enrolled children, and over 1,100 in community-based programs and wrap-around support.
CELC is building a new affordable childcare center in the Near East Side’s Driving Park neighborhood, which is currently a “childcare desert.” Nearly 44 percent of families in the neighborhood live under the poverty line. Quality childcare helps level the playing field for kids by preparing young children for kindergarten while parents work or attend school.
“Our work ensures that the Zip Code a child is born into isn’t the blueprint for their life. We’re providing children with the opportunities to achieve their hopes and dreams.”
—John Auletto, CELC Board of Directors, Hexion Executive Vice President, Human Resources
Daily play and physical activity are vital for a child’s healthy development. A new, safe, age-appropriate playground can cost nearly $100,000. CELC has the incredible opportunity to partner with Discover and KABOOM! to build a playground. This playground has been designed by and for the community. If the community supports this Better Together project at its full $8,500 goal, it will ensure CELC can provide the local funding necessary to build this play space. CELC, Discover, and KABOOM! will build this custom playground with the support of volunteers on October 26-29. Help CELC make kids’ playground dreams come true.
We are Better Together!
“Their teachers are loving and compassionate, and the staff is overall wonderful. We are proud to be a part of the CELC family!”
—Josie, CELC Parent
