Healthy Smile, Healthy Child
KidSMILES Pediatric Dental Clinic
Dental care is the number one unmet health care need for children in Ohio. Your support will provide the tools needed to ensure at-risk children in central Ohio have a healthy smile.
A smile is one of the prettiest things you can wear, but not if it causes daily pain and embarrassment that wrecks your concentration and self-esteem. That is the reality many children in our community experience before finding KidSMILES Pediatric Dental Clinic.
This Better Together campaign will enable KidSMILES to replace crucial resources for their pediatric dental clinic: a compressor and vacuum pump that drives suction and power to dental tools, and a backup server for patient files and digital x-rays. Keeping equipment up to date and in good working condition is essential to providing affordable patient care. Fortunately, much of KidSMILES equipment has been donated, but these tools need to be purchased in order to keep maintenance costs at a minimum and meet the demand of those in need of critical dental care.
“My daughter Olivia is now sixteen years old and was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. We struggled for years to find a dental clinic that was willing to attempt services for her and finally have a dental home at KidSMILES. The staff deserves amazing praise for what they do and I have recommended KidSMILES to everyone I know.”
— Casey Sulser, mother of a KidSMILES patient
According to the Ohio Department of Health, even though tooth decay is preventable, more than 50 percent of Ohio 3rd graders have tooth decay. In Franklin County alone, more than 35,000 children have never been to a dentist. Families with limited resources are often in the position of delaying dental care for their children due to other critical expenses. The impact of delaying dental care is long-lasting—children with severe oral health problems have more heart and lung disease, as well as higher instance of stroke and diabetes as adults.
Serving families at 250 percent of the federal poverty level, KidSMILES is a low-cost solution to this problem. With a mission to ensure that every vulnerable child in central Ohio has a healthy smile, the dental team and volunteers at KidSMILES offer comprehensive dental care to children 18 years and younger for just $20 per visit.
Provide quality dental care and education to central Ohio children at an affordable cost to their families.
