Housewarming Baskets for Stability
Columbus Works, Inc.
Provide housewarming baskets for those transitioning from homeless shelters to new homes.
Columbus Works, Inc., one of the 2020 Five Nonprofits to Watch at The Columbus Foundation, provides hope and encouragement to area residents living in poverty who desire to advance to economic self-sufficiency through employment.
Founded in 2016 as an affiliate of Cincinnati Works, Columbus Works Inc. has established itself as a key component of the workforce development structure in our community. It serves two populations: job seekers (its members) who desire to work their way out of poverty, and employers.
About one-third of their members come from the Columbus homeless shelter system. While moving forward in obtaining employment, they work with community partners to move from shelters into safe, affordable housing. Columbus Works, Inc. provides housewarming baskets to those transitioning to new housing, most of whom have only a few personal belongings.
“Just getting a job isn't enough, when you start out in a homeless shelter. Moving into your own place brings worries of its own...Having a housewarming basket from Columbus Works gets me started, so I can concentrate on going to work and moving forward!”
