Thanks to you and other generous donors, children at Bridgeway Academy can now play on an adaptive swing on the playground!

Bridgeway Academy provides educational and therapeutic services for more than 220 children, ages 3 to 21, with autism and other developmental disabilities. With a mission to inspire the potential and celebrate the ability of every child, Bridgeway Academy’s current enrollment spans nine counties and 28 school districts in central Ohio. 

Children with autism and other developmental disabilities might struggle with play. They may have limited motor function or low motivation, find play experiences overwhelming, or struggle with social interactions. Play is the foundation for all learning and allows children to use creativity while developing their imagination, dexterity, and physical, cognitive, and emotional strength, encouraging social interaction and the development of problem-solving skills.

“Adapted swings will benefit any child that may have balance issues, low muscle tone (often a comorbidity with autism), or have the desire to swing but possibly present concerns in swinging safely. This addition would allow [my son], and other students like him, to perform the same activities as his peers.”
