Raising Voices

We Amplify Voices (WAV)

Support for We Amplify Voices (WAV) will help raise up the voices of hard-working and creative women.

RAISED $875.00
GOAL $6,000.00

We Amplify Voices (WAV) empowers underrepresented voices through creativity and creates safe spaces for people to share, learn, and heal together. Under the guidance of a team of professional musicians, producers, videographers, and visual artists, WAV facilitates 10-week, trauma-informed conversations and mindfulness workshops with small groups of students, many of whom reside in communities at or below the poverty line.

“By harnessing the power of creativity and expression, WAV is creating an immense, positive impact on the lives of those who need it most. Not only do participants in the workshops benefit greatly from these workshops, the public at large will benefit from hearing the stories of growth and healing.”

—Phillip Kim, Board Chair

Members of the CATCH Court graduating class, a two-year diversion program for female human trafficking survivors, will create a song and short video about their experiences. In September, working alongside the WAV workshops team, the song will be written and recorded over a series of ten, one-hour sessions with Columbus-based musicians and producers. Additionally, artwork for the song will be created in collaboration with a local visual artist. A live performance will be recorded at the Ohio Statehouse during the CATCH Court graduation ceremony.

Your support for this Better Together project will help create the song, artwork, and final video. The video will feature footage taken from the live performance, as well as from interviews with the women and staff. The full public release of the song and artwork will take place in October in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and will include information about local intervention programs and support for victims of violence. Help WAV raise up the voices of hard-working and creative women!

We are Better Together!

“These women's empowerment through using their voice and creativity with WAV has been groundbreaking and an essential tool in building their resilience and confidence. For some, it is the first life experience in which their journey can be honored and celebrated.”

—Gwen England, CATCH Court Program Leader
