COLUMBUS, OH (August 9, 2018)—The Columbus Foundation announces The Big Table, a community-wide day of conversations, will take place again on August 29. This will be the third Big Table, a day-long event designed to connect citizens and broaden perspectives as residents listen to and learn from each other.
More than 5,000 people participated in conversations at homes, offices, restaurants, public institutions and other gathering places during each of the previous Big Table events, and enthusiasm remains high this year as hundreds of volunteer hosts once again prepare to guide discussions that foster empathy and engagement.
“The Big Table is all about authentic human connection. In today’s world, we spend so much time interacting with each other via technology. But we learn the most when we sit down and look each other in the eyes and intently listen to each other’s thoughts and experiences.”
—Kelley Griesmer, Senior Vice President, The Columbus Foundation
This year’s conversations include:
- The sold-out “100-Women: A Big Table conversation,” hosted at the YWCA Columbus
- Walking conversations in the Merion Village and Franklinton neighborhoods held by Jane’s Walk Columbus.
- 100 members of the Harmony Project will meet with 100 inmates at the Ohio Reformatory for Women for a discussion around the definition of freedom
- A conversation around the future of electric transportation that includes test drives of electric vehicles, co-hosted by Smart Columbus and Clean Fuels Ohio
Other partners of The Big Table include Columbus Metropolitan Club, Columbus Metropolitan Library, Columbus Museum of Art, Central Ohio Transportation Authority, Donatos Pizza, Hot Chicken Takeover, Jewish, Family Services, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, Ohio Environmental Council, The Ohio State University, The Roosevelt Coffee House, United Way of Central Ohio, and White Castle.
